In the last quarter of 2022, for one of our customers from the commodity business area, we supported a project which aimed to upgrade SAP S/4HANA system from version 1809 to S/4HANA 2021.

In order to minimize the need for their engagement it has been decided to utilize Int4 Suite to conduct mass tests of multiple business scenarios.and helped identify the scenarios which were no longer used.

Solution – how Int4 supported the upgrade project?

We created 4000 test cases based on the real business FI documents retrieved from the production instance. It allowed us to test in mass 180 different business scenarios.

For such a technical upgrade project it is always crucial to ensure that after the upgrade every single document is posted in exactly the same way, as it did before. Automatic comparison of the DB records makes this possible, and time feasible to manage.

Comparing the tested system’s current database entries with those from the reference production environment would have been sufficient for the majority of customers. However in that particular instance, we had to do better because the tested interface permitted updating the database entries while deleting the old records.

Thankfully, Int4 Suite offers the customizable functionality of enabling the local storage of specific database values from the original reference documents at the time of test case creation. Thus, further modifications to the original records would not impact the outcomes of test cases that are executed later.

The ability to compare databases has shown to be crucial to the success of the entire upgrade process. During testing, Int4 Suite helped in locating discrepancies in the values of several of the uploaded documents, which resulted in the discovery of flaws in the FI customization.
